President Obama, after extensive interviews of experts about the Gulf Oil spill, finally discovers "whose ass to kick."
George W. Bush was condemned by everybody from the man in the street to Heaven's mighty seraphim due to the fact that federal aid did not arrive in New Orleans for three whole days after Hurricane Katrina struck. (This was -- and remains -- standard operating procedure for federal disaster assistance. It's hard to see how it could be otherwise -- but we'll skip that.) It has been six weeks since the Deepwater Horizon blowout. And what has the Obama administration accomplished in a time period fourteen times longer than that granted to Bush?
This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal...
If all that was going to happen with the nomination of Barack Obama, you would think he could stop a little oil from spilling into the Gulf.
When is Obama just going to put on the damn wetsuit and go down there and fix the problem?
My job right now is just to make sure that everybody in the Gulf understands this is what I wake up to in the morning and this is what I go to bed at night thinking about: the spill.
Obama's job description is fascinating. He has been depicted as a proponent of "activist government," but this may be a bum rap. Now he tells us he thinks that if he somehow gets people to think about him and how much he's thinking about what he thinks they think he should be thinking about, his job is done.
Which raises only two questions: First, if the requirements of his job are so modest, why is he still having trouble meeting them? Second, couldn't all this cogitation be done at a cost of less than $3.5 trillion a year?

I can guarantee you that those who are protesting the loudest over the Gulf oil spill don't really care a bit about the environment or about how much oil they are actually consuming. These are the people that fly all over the world, probably for vacation, but they are just as likely attending a global warming conference espousing how the American energy policy is so evil. Do you know how much fuel it takes to keep a 747 in the air? (Answer: 11 tons of fuel per hour). They have probably condemned the nuclear energy industry, believe that coal is an environmental disaster, and that wind and solar is the savior of the planet. So why don't the proponents of green energy unplug from the electrical grid and the natural gas pipeline and put a windmill and some solar panels on their roof? They probably have a Prius in the driveway so they can proclaim their green awareness. I'm sure Al Gore has several parked outside his $9 million dollar estate. Who said proclaiming the Gospel of Green doesn't pay?
